When a FTSE 250 retail company, active across Europe, was let down by a retained consultant, it decided to seek legal redress. It launched a breach of contract civil action.
Its lawyers suggested recruiting BDO Stoy Hayward's Forensic Services team to quantify the losses and act as expert witnesses. "This was a complex assignment with a demanding schedule," says Forensic Services Manager Martin Ball. "Six of us were engaged full time, co-ordinating the process and supporting specialists.
"We brought in talent from across the firm. The Valuations team provided evidence on the financial impact of the consultant's actions; Corporate Finance reported on the integrity of the business models used in the initial contract; we sought advice from our international tax specialists; we had BDO Member Firm partners from Hungary and Germany as expert witnesses.
"In the end the case was settled and the client was impressed with our professionalism and expertise."
