Asset tracing and recovery - a specialist skill
At BDO Stoy Hayward, we have a group of highly trained specialists who deal with asset tracing and recovery / asset disposal on behalf of the police, the courts and government departments.
Asset tracing and recovery - how it works
Our forensic accounting department is often asked to take part in asset tracing and recovery. Sometimes this is related to domestic cases such as divorce proceedings or company diligence, but more usually, asset tracing and recovery is part of criminal proceedings. It is our job to identify assets related to a particular individual or corporate entity and to form an expert opinion on the source of funding, ownership and disposals related to each.
Much of our asset tracing and recovery work is undertaken pre-arrest, establishing the level of assets an individual or entity possesses, where they are and what they are worth.
We are then tasked with ‘looking after’ the assets we have identified through the asset tracing and recovery procedure until the outcome of the criminal or civil proceedings is clear. If the court rules against the defendant, we are often asked to manage an asset disposal. Asset disposal usually means gaining the maximum revenue for the assets in question.
Asset tracing and recovery is a combination of the work of forensics and restraint and confiscations groups. If you have need of asset tracing and recovery or asset disposal, please contact us for a confidential discussion.
