FAQs

  • What happens if my computer crashes half-way through completing my application form?

This isn't a problem, as long as you remember to save your answers as you go along. Even if your computer crashes in the middle of a test that you can take only once, the technology is sophisticated enough to know what's happened and let you start again.Back to top

  • Will my personal details remain personal?

Yes. BDO Stoy Hayward takes online security very seriously. We use the latest technology to make sure your application can not be seen by anyone outside the application process. The information you submit to us is only used for the purposes of your application. Back to top

  • What happens after I've submitted my application form?

A member of our student recruitment team will review your application. Our aim is to inform you by email within two working days whether you've been successful or not. If you have, you'll be invited to complete online tests. During peak times it can take us a little longer, but by logging back into the system, you should be able to find out how your application is progressing.Back to top

  • I'm an international student - can I still apply for the BDO Stoy Hayward student training scheme?

BDO Stoy Hayward welcomes graduate applications from international candidates who require a work permit. If you do require a work permit, our immigration lawyers will first review your circumstances to advise on the likelihood of success of a work permit application. Work permits issued will be employer specific and will allow you to work for BDO Stoy Hayward in the UK for five years. If our immigration lawyers advise that a work permit is likely to be issued, we will pursue a work permit application on your behalf should you meet the criteria of every stage of our selection process. If our immigration lawyers advise that a work permit is unlikely to be issued, we will confirm this with you and your application will not be accepted.

Our immigration lawyers advice in this regard will be final. Please note our selection process involves attendance at a first round interview and a subsequent assessment event. Candidates are required to make themselves available to attend these recruitment selection events at a UK office. Travel expenses will be reimbursed to a maximum of £100. As competition for these opportunities is intense we encourage you to apply as soon as possible and before the 30 June for our September start date and 31 August for our December start date. • I don't meet your minimum academic requirements - will I be rejected automatically?

No. Our minimum academic requirements have been developed as a guide to how well trainees will be able to cope with the demands of professional exams and training. As such they are very important in the selection process. But if there were extenuating circumstances that affected your results (such as illness, for example), you'll be able to highlight them on your application form.Back to top

  • I have already graduated - can I still apply to the graduate training scheme?

Yes. We welcome applications from people who have already graduated or who are studying for a post-graduate qualification - we value any extra experience or skills you may have gained.Back to top

  • Will I be able to highlight any extenuating circumstances that could affect my application?

If you'd like us to consider something that has affected your academic results, please highlight this in the relevant section on the application form. Note: If you have a valid reason for not being able to use the online application, we will be happy to consider this.Back to top

  • If I am invited to complete online ability tests, how can I prepare for these?

If your application is successful then you will be sent a link to the online tests. In the first instance this will take you through to practice questions which you can complete as many times as you like. You will not automatically be expected to complete the real tests and will be able to log back on to do this when you feel ready.

In addition you can log on to www.shl.com for further examples of the online tests that we use.

If you have any special requirements regarding sitting online tests, please contact the office that you have applied for.Back to top

  • If I am unsuccessful at any stage of the recruitment process, when can I reapply?

It is our policy that candidates who are unsuccessful at an interview or assessment day need to wait twelve months before applying again. Please note that this is twelve months from the date you were informed that you were unsuccessful.

If you are unsuccessful at the earlier stages of our recruitment process, either application stage or at online tests then you are eligible to apply again after six months from the date you were unsuccessful.Back to top
