Manchester is a city of startling contrasts and significant challenges. It is the North West’s regional centre for finance, commerce, retail, culture and leisure, home to a major international airport and one of the largest student populations in Europe. It has transformed itself from an industrial city dependant on manufacturing to a thriving, modern and dynamic international city. While manufacturing remains important, Manchester had attracted growth in the knowledge-based economy and is one of the top ten European cities for business location. The city is also the key economic driver for the region, voted Britain’s best city for business in a national survey of more than 5,000 of the country’s biggest employers in 28 cities.

Manchester is one of the easiest cities to get around, whether you're on the bus, train, tram or car. Our office is based in the city centre. We are a large office with a strong presence in the market place and with our clients. However, we are small enough that everyone knows one another. Trainees get early responsibility working with a variety of clients while learning from some of our top people.

We participate in a number of sporting activities such as cricket, netball and football. The Manchester office football team have won the firm’s UK football tournament several times and were recently crowned European Champions when we played in Germany this year against other BDO European offices.

Chris studied Sports Science and Physiology at Edinburgh University. After graduating in 2004, he worked at the Scottish Executive for a year before joining BDO Stoy Hayward’s Manchester office in the Business Restructuring team.

“I chose Business Restructuring specifically because it looked like an interesting challenge. The fact that you’re working with companies going through hard times and it’s your job to salvage what you can from the situation really appealed.”
