Our people
“I check in regularly with my manager, but you’re encouraged to take
ownership here. It’s been that way pretty much right from the start.”
A big pull for me was the fact that BDO Stoy Hayward gave me the chance to work
as a management consultant while also studying towards the ACA qualification.
Our work is split between projects for external clients and for other teams from around BDO Stoy Hayward.
Our work internally is focused around winning new business. Recently, for instance,
I’ve been working with colleagues from Forensic Accounting to help them organise
their pitch process. This involves putting together a pitch document that will sell
their services to potential clients and also looks at the pitch process itself.
In the short time the new system has been in place, we’ve won one new project
and we’ve just heard we’re on the shortlist for another. When you’ve
really put the hours in on a job, it’s great to see that it’s working
and making a difference.
On the external side, there’s plenty of variety, both in terms of the clients
and the kind of work you’re doing. They can be anyone from large corporations
to government departments or regulatory bodies.
I’ve worked with my manager on a project for a public sector client that has
quite an involved structure. Essentially, it’s five organisations in one and
they’ve asked us to come in and assess how well they’re all working
together. I’ve been given quite a lot of freedom to go away and look at the
strategy side of things and develop a report to show how improvements could be made.
I’m looking for ways to make all the separate bits of the organisation pull
in the same direction. I check in regularly with my manager and he adds his input,
but you’re encouraged to take ownership here. It’s been that way pretty
much right from the start.
I’m loving the work I’m doing at the moment and I’m also encouraged
when I look at the long-term opportunities. This team is relatively small compared
to some of the other management consultancies out there, but it’s growing
fast and it feels like there are plenty of opportunities to grow with it.
