Business Restructuring

Back to profiles

Sharnette graduated with a History degree from Cambridge University and joined BDO Stoy Hayward’s Business Restructuring team the following September.

“You learn about the challenges that businesses face, how they can fail and what can be done to put them back together again.”

I first started thinking about BDO Stoy Hayward after seeing that it was in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For list. After a bit of research and meeting a few people I got a really good feeling about the place; it’s professional and dynamic, but it’s also got a down to earth attitude.

Business Restructuring isn’t straightforward accounting – it’s much broader than that. Our role is to offer advice to financially troubled businesses and individuals to improve their survival prospects. You’re provided with excellent on-the-job and professional training and exposed to a broad overview of businesses in general.

You also get a lot of real responsibility from the outset, so you really get the chance to show what you’re capable of. I’ve been welcomed into the team quickly, and I found it easy to settle in. BDO Stoy Hayward is all about embracing difference and developing potential, that’s what I love about it.

As well as liquidations, my team works on receiverships, administrations and voluntary arrangements of companies or individuals.

One of my highlights so far has been closing my own case. I was supervised throughout, but was pretty much given a free rein to run things, deal with the client and complete the process. It was so satisfying suddenly to realise that I could do this from start to finish.

I’m going back to my university in October to tell students about life at BDO Stoy Hayward and I’m really looking forward to it. I think I can make a pretty convincing case why this is a great firm to work for.
