Our people
Why choose BDO Stoy Hayward?
BDO Stoy Hayward for me was a great place to train. I was provided with the time
and resources I needed to get through my exams but also felt as if the firm and
my colleagues were really behind me, to make sure I got through my exams but also
enjoy the first three years within the firm.
What type of people does the firm attract?
I don’t think BDO is a place that attracts types. We like to attract people
and feel that it is essential if we are going to grow the business to attract people
from all sorts of backgrounds. In my team I have people who have geography, economics,
English, maths backgrounds and we all bring different and also similar skills to
make the team a more rounded and more successful team.
What challenges do you face?
The most challenging part of my job is simply understanding and keeping up to date
with the key issues affecting our clients’ business. A lot of the advice we
give within BDO will have a material impact on our clients. Making sure we understand
those issues affecting the clients’ business and therefore being able to provide
the advice they need, is one of the most challenging parts of my job.
How does the firm support your development?
I have been allocated two counselling partners and a counselling mentor who meet with me on a monthly basis to make sure that I am actioning my development needs and identifying areas where I can improve myself. But I am also I’m staying aware of the other services within the firm, with the opportunity to possibly do a secondment to those other areas to develop my skills further.
How does the firm support secondments?
Throughout BDO, constantly, there are constant opportunities to carry out a secondment both internally – within the range of service offerings we have at the firm – but also to at our clients.
