Business Assurance Trainee - Leeds office

I am Natasha Uttamchandani, I work at BDO Stoy Hayward in the Leeds office and I am going to show you round, so come with me. Business assurance is not just an audit, it is more than that, especially for BDO Stoy Hayward. We provide a more advisory service, it is mainly going out to clients, working with clients on a daily basis, out on site so you will not see many people in the business assurance department in the office all the time.

I am just going to go for a coffee with my mentor/manager Steve so come with us. If I have got any problems, if I have got any queries I either go to my counselling manager, my counselling partner or we have a buddy system, where there is a network of people that are at different stages through their training contracts. They have been through everything that you are just about to go through, they have faced the challenges that you are about to face.

This is where we keep all the audit files, if you want a file you need to make sure that there is no one down the aisles and then you need to wind it up.

I chose to work at BDO Stoy Hayward because my first impression of the people that worked here was really good. Everyone seemed down to earth and really friendly. Initially, when you join BDO Stoy Hayward as a graduate, you go down for a two week training course. A fantastic opportunity to meet the other graduates in your year, who you tend to keep in touch with and meet at the annual social events, such as the football tournament.

We play between the offices, our Leeds girls office has turned into a weekly practice session and we are already preparing for the next year, so the other offices had better watch out!

I am just about to go into a client debriefing meeting so you can come along too.

The kind of person that you need to be to join BDO Stoy Hayward is quite friendly and fun and outgoing, and be able to have a laugh at work and get on with the people that you work with. You can take an idea and take it as far as you like, no one is going to knock your ideas back. The managers and partners are always open to new ideas on how to do things more efficiently and effectively. I have done that once out on site and it worked really well.
