A sunny end to our third season
There’s something rather special about cycling in November on crisp, chilly days. This year’s final ride of the season was no exception, with Denbies vineyard basking in a golden robe of autumnal hues. On arrival at Denbies I thought that this ride was the first to attract over 500 riders only to realise Chris Grove’s end of season “Falling Leaves ride” coincided with the phenomenally popular Park Run and at 9.30 sharp 482 harriers were on their way. This left our hardy group of 8 who set forth along the lanes of the Surrey lowlands before taking a short coffee, cheese, banana cake and more picnic stop in Forest Green. A big thank you to Moo Grove for looking after us. The Denbies ride wouldn’t be what it is without the delights of White Down Lane. The upside of this challenging climb is it offers the wonderful descent back into the vineyard, the downside is.... there isn’t one and it’s a jolly big hill which will be waiting for all of us next season.
Enjoy the winter break, please keep us posted if you enjoy some great riding which our BDOVELO network would be interested in hearing about. For me, the hills of Wiltshire beckon.
