A Tour of West Sussex
Our last ride of spring had the feel of one of our summer rides, with some fantastic cycling weather greeting us at the beautiful Mannings Heath Golf Club. It was great to see some new faces and after a briefing over breakfast butties and coffee, two groups set out to ride the stunning 50 km parcours.
A rolling route took in traffic-free back lanes out to Ardingly reservoir. Lots of great networking was had, with the sound of conversation only punctuated by a couple of punchy ramps that certainly got the heart pumping. Fortunately the route took us DOWN Cobbs Lane rather than UP - it’s a beast and a real leg-breaker at the wrong end of a sportive. At the 35km mark we pulled off the road and the team put on a great feed-stop, allowing further time to catch up, compare notes with the other group and fuel for the push back to the golf club.
Despite one or two Garmin gremlins, we arrived back with the sun still up and plenty of time to enjoy a post-ride drink on the terrace before an early dinner. We had the great fortune to hear from Nick Brown, of Have Bike, who spoke about his transition from life as a city lawyer to a successful entrepreneur - sharing the successes, pitfalls and even some trade secrets.
