Denbies: rolling in ever-decreasing circles!

Despite a brisk wind, 7 of us turned out for the great Denbies ride on Friday 22 April (whether it was the weather of genuine client demands, we would’ve been in double figures if it wasn’t for late cancellations).

Meeting under the Denbies Wine Estate flag which was set against a backdrop of bright skies, there was the usual banter – comparing training, getting to know new faces.  The blue skies were a little misleading, as it turned out to be a tad colder than expected and the flag flapping in the wind was an indication of how windy it was going to be out on the roads.

After warming up the legs up and over Punchbowl Lane, we took on the undulating Surrey roads in the shadow of Box Hill. The route was best described as 'ever decreasing circles', although with much chat in the saddle not everyone noticed!. This being one-day classic season, it rude not to include the half mile of off-road which we endearingly named 'the Hell of Surrey' between Buckland Park Lake and Reigate Heath, over Shag Brook.

In what seemed like no time at all, we were passing back through the lovely village of Brockham, up and over Punchbowl Lane and rolling back into the Denbies estate, where we were greeted by the lovely Mrs G, who was waiting for us with the car boot open and a hamper full of goodies including home made carrot cake and a bottle or two of Denbies’ best fizz!!

Our next event on 13th May is the first full day event of the year.  We will be heading to West Sussex and rolling out of the Singing Hills Golf Centre.  This is a networking ride with breakfast on arrival and 2-course lunch. As the season picks up pace, we have an evening at Vermuteria in London on Thursday 26 May, providing the opportunity to develop some business relationships in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events. You can find the full calendar here. In the meantime, Ride well, and Keep safe!
