We are pleased to advise of a new session for HEI governors, which will run as a webinar on Thursday 24 June 2021.
Following the highly successful June and October 2020 events (between them, attended by more than 350 governors from over 100 HEIs), we are running our next update for Board members, Clerks and members of VCE. This session sits alongside the ‘The Effective (HEI) Audit Committee’ session on Wednesday 19 May 2021. These are two discrete and complimentary sessions and will, as ever, be updated to the morning of delivery (sometimes HE moves at quite a pace).
The impact on HEIs of the Government's strategy for COVID-19 has been immediate and is changing on a regular basis. Reaching into every HEI, multiple challenges arise. Not least with switches from blended learning to online only (and back again) as campuses remain open but without the usual face-to-face teaching. Brexit is (almost) a memory, and both risk registers and financial forecasts are unrecognisable compared with just a few months ago. Access to finance has become far more interesting, transformational change is becoming more apparent and long term solutions are needed. We have another summer of disruption to established planning timetables with both A levels and results day pushed out.
James Aston MBE, National Head of Education, will aim to articulate what good practice looks like, will bring together what Boards are looking at and give a perspective on the challenges and distinctive levers available to the OfS, the DfE and Ministers. Drawing on our sector experience, he will use real examples and current issues being addressed by Boards and VCEs to bring matters to life.
The delivery platform is becoming familiar, and the format has roots in James’ Audit Committee and Board Away days sessions which have been running for over 15 years. This will be a 45 minute session of reality checking / horizon scanning and then a question and answer session for 15 minutes.
