  • Summary

At BDO, we have developed a series of VAT workshops to help your organisation proactively manage its VAT accounting. The sessions are targeted at non-VAT specialists ranging from key members of the finance team to in-house tax managers in the North West region. The workshops are intended to be informal and interactive so that attendees are able to discuss specific issues and areas of concern.

Customs Duty agenda:

This session is aimed at providing an overview of customs duty and how it works practically. Given the impending changes in the UK’s international trading relationships and increasing HMRC resource focused on this area, proactive management of customs duty is becoming ever more important to UK businesses. The training will help attendees to understand how customs duty works, how to complete customs declarations and to gain an awareness of the customs processes and reliefs that are available which could be beneficial. Regardless of the ultimate outcome of Brexit, training in this area will be worthwhile to increase awareness of how changes in a business’ own supply chain can impact on the tax position and profitability.

Areas to be covered:

  • Customs in a global context with the overarching framework and international trade
  • Classification
  • Valuation
  • Origin
  • Incoterms
  • Special procedures
  • Information required
  • To complete customs declaration
  • Roles and responsibilities of the importer, exporter and freight forwarder
  • Licencing and custom compliance

Each attendee will receive a pack of materials covering the content of the session to take away with them and will have the opportunity to ask specific questions of a VAT specialist who will be running the event.
