Protecting Against Wannacry (2)

16 June 2017

On Tuesday 13th June, Microsoft took the highly unusual step of issuing another patch that could be applied to some of its older and out-of-support operating systems to protect them against WannaCry-like attacks.

The systems the patch is intended for include the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 operating systems.

The updates, that also include a range of other fixes for more recent and supported systems, will be automatically applied to those running Windows Update on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, and post-2008 Windows Server. Those running XP can download the updates from the Download Centre.

If you are still running computers using the XP or Server 2003 operating system and they are connected to the Internet, you need to apply the patch immediately or replace the system with one that is more up to date.
