Our first networking event of the season

We launched our 2019 evening event programme with Dr Jamie Pringle and adventurer Neil Laughton sharing unique insights into their own particular worlds of cycling at the historic Army and Navy club on Pall Mall.

Jamie opened the evening with fascinating examples of his work with elite sports and world class athletes. In particular, he highlighted the benefit to high performance sport of national lottery funding and also shared details of his involvement with the Boardman performance centre at Evesham.  The centre offers world class advice to teams and cyclists of all levels, this included some tips on how to increase speed... it’s all about the positioning of the thumbs and forget shaving your legs. We look forward to seeing who sits at number 5 or 6 in the peloton on our next ride!

Jamie was followed by Neil Laughton, founder of the Penny Farthing club.  Neil arrived, as only the founder should, in top hat and tails and promptly rode his steed around the club's drawing room!  Tally ho! He is about to embark on the simple challenge of riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats via Wales and Ireland on his Penny Farthing, no mean feat, but compared with some of the other adventures which he shared with us, this sounded like a "stroll in the park".  We wish him well.

We hope that those who joined us, enjoyed the setting of the Army and Navy club who were so welcoming and followed on from the Rollapaluza evening, we are off to a cracking start to 2019.  We look forward to welcoming you at our next evening networking event at the Oval cricket ground in May where we welcome Olympic Gold medallist Amy Williams. Amy will share details of the Channel 5 programme, Tour de Celeb, and how she prepared for l'etape du tour.Don’t forget to register for our opening ride of the season on 4 April at Bramley Golf Club near Guildford.
