Jonathan is a tax partner at BDO and head of the tax team for our Southampton office.

I work with a very broad spectrum of clients on tax compliance, assurance, and advisory matters.  My main focus is on corporate tax, but I also work with owners and mangers to provide an all round tax advisory service.  My clients are located in the UK and Internationally and although I work with a number of sectors and I have a particular area of expertise in the leisure and hospitality industry, including restaurants bars and sports related businesses.

I have worked at BDO for over 25 years and have been a partner since 2006.  I spent most of this time based in our London office and continue to work with my clients that are based in the London area, many of whom I have worked with for the majority of my time with BDO.  However, in 2023 I also took on the role of local Head of the Tax team in Southampton and as a result I began working with several new clients as well as being responsible for one of the largest tax teams in the region offering the full range of tax services.  This move has enabled me to take everything I have learned in my career to date with BDO and use that to help develop and grow a team.

Since 2015 I have been responsible for delivering the firm’s reporting on budgets, Autumn statements and other fiscal events.  I have really enjoyed this role as it means I get to work with a whole range of experts in our business that I might not otherwise have to opportunity to and means that I pick up changes to tax rules at the earliest opportunity that benefits me and my clients.  I have written a number of articles for the press around the changes we want (and those we get) from government.

Outside of work I get myself away from tax by being outdoors in my local countryside with two active teenage sons and two very lively cockapoos.  I love to ride a bike and also put together a small gym in our house during lockdown which helps to keep the whole family fit and focussed on our wellbeing.
