Report:

Birmingham and Solihull – Abuzz with business

19 July 2018

Our Birmingham and Solihull Growth Barometer announces the significant success of the leading performers in the region and our research shows that by most measures, Birmingham and Solihull is booming.

With increased innovation, a rise in recruitment and investment in infrastructure, the area is attracting new businesses and workers across the industries, most notably in the services sector where, at a 47% increase, it is effectively the fastest-growing sector in the region.

Birmingham and Solihull have played a significant role in the UK economy ever since the early days of the Industrial Revolution. Today that role is, if anything, being enhanced by significant cash inflows into the area. From HSBC moving to Birmingham to the £1bn in tourism receipts that flooded into the city in 2016, it is clear the region is attracting plenty of valuable attention. How can this be maintained, though, and what are the threats to the region’s continued prosperity? We ask the West Midlands Mayor the same question.
