There is a lot of change happening in the indirect tax world, not least that the UK is due to leave the European Union on 29 March 2019. There remains a lot of uncertainty as to what our future trading relationship with the EU will look like, but there are a number of steps that businesses can take to prepare for these changes. We will be discussing these steps at our Indirect Tax Breakfast Club on 22 March 2019.
Making Tax Digital for VAT (“MTD”) will be due to start for periods started after 1 April 2019 for some businesses, although more complex businesses will not have to start using MTD until later in the year. HMRC has recently introduced changes that will affect the VAT treatment of deposits, membership of a VAT group, the treatment of vouchers and the way in which a business treats the construction services that it receives. We will be discussing these changes and the effect that they may have on your business
There have also been a number of recent developments in VAT case law as well as proposals from HMC for legislative and administrative changes affecting VAT. Accordingly we will discuss the more interesting/relevant changes and cases that may impact your business.
