An M&A director at BDO has been named in the 2020 Timewise Power 50 awards – a roll call of 50 senior leaders in the UK that work part time or flexibly.
Janie Reid, a director in BDO’s corporate finance team, specialises in financial and operational modelling. She works four days a week; across three full days and two half days.
The Timewise Power 50, compiled by flexible working consultancy Timewise, aims to challenge the belief that part-time work restricts ambition and success.
Supported by Dixons Carphone, EY, Lloyds Banking Group and Diageo, the awards also aim to inspire employers across the country with examples of how flexible working can and should work by showcasing trailblazing role models.
Janie was named in the Power 50 for her achievements at BDO over the last 12 months.
Having secured a promotion, she has led the team that designs and constructs financial models for private companies, banks and investment funds, typically for corporate finance transactions.
Peter Hemington, head of corporate finance at BDO, comments: “Janie is a great example to others that working part time needn’t limit their ambitions. In the last 12 months alone, Janie has secured promotion, built a high-performing team and delivered significant growth. She’s a huge asset and a great role model to many.”
Janie started working part time five years ago at BDO following maternity leave. Once her daughter started school, she changed her working pattern to include two half days in order to be available for the school drop off and pick up.
BDO also supports Janie with an additional four weeks leave during school summer holidays.
Janie Reid said: “Working part time has allowed me to strike the balance I need with a young family, but it never inhibited my ambition.
“My career progression has been enabled by having a supportive and flexible employer. Having a forward-thinking approach to flexible working can benefit both parties. It helps individuals achieve a better work life integration, while organisations gain the competitive advantage that comes with a broader talent pool, helping create a diverse and inclusive workforce.
“I’m honoured to be named in the Power 50 and delighted to be recognised as a role model for flexible working. I am so happy to be part of a movement which demonstrates that working flexibly shouldn’t limit ambition or success.”
