Martin Daniel

I am a leader within BDO's International Institutions and Donor Assurance (IIDA) team. I specialise in delivering assignments to International Funding Institutions, such as the European Commission, and the United Nations; UK grant funding bodies, such as Innovate UK and UKRI; and overseas governmental grant funding bodies, such as GIZ.

I have led numerous large-scale framework contracts and long-term agreements for international donor clients. This involves delivering hundreds of assurance engagements across Europe and worldwide.

I’ve also overseen over 100 audits for Horizon Europe, the European Commission's largest funding programme and recently I've been involved in certifying a large number of organisations who received funding for research and innovation projects from a European Community agency. This project was particularly challenging due to the tight delivery window, requiring completion within three months of the reporting period's end.

Earlier in my career, I led hundreds of on-site assurance engagements for international donor clients, which laid the foundation for my current work. While primarily focussed on financial and systems audits and expenditure verifications during my career, my experience and specialist expertise extends to performance audits, forensic audits, and providing advice on risk management, governance, and audit strategy to donor institutions.

I am the trusted global advisor to a diverse range of actors within the international donor community and I’m proud of my long track record of tailoring services to help global donors maximise their impact through building the requisite trust and transparency, delivering services with microscopic attention to detail, high quality output and technical rigour. We ensure donors are comfortable with the implementation of their funds by grant recipients and promote the successful execution of donor-funded projects.
