Area of Focus: Cybersecurity

Business Challenge

The client needed to improve their cybersecurity posture as well as the overall customer, vendor, and employee experience. They wanted to maintain relevance in the age of digitisation and marketplace disruption while protecting customer data. Their cyber insurance costs were increasing but multi-factor authentication (MFA) was not yet deployed. They needed a technology strategy that would reduce data leakage of proprietary information while lowering costs.

Key Initiatives

The client asked BDO Digital to help rollout Azure MFA for their Office 365 instance which includes Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. Three discovery sessions were conducted to review their current environment. The deployment was rolled out to 3,000 users in 3 weeks including:

  • Multi-factor authentication was rolled out with custom access policies using conditional access
  • Some SaaS apps like Salesforce were protected with MFA/CA as well

Results

Using Azure MFA to harden all end-points within the org, BDO Digital helped the School Specialty improve their security posture. Not only did they reduce the risk of data leakage, but they're also saving over $50,000 annually on cyber insurance costs. They now have multi-factor authentication when accessing their O365 suite which has improved their security tenfold. They have also improved education and change management controls across the organisation
