Commissioning Strategy

21 April 2016

The structural reform in the NHS has provided commissioners with an opportunity to drive forward the clinical agenda and none more so than the development of clinical commissioning groups, led by local GP's. These groups are on a learning curve in managing a business and as such it is important to ensure they have a clear and credible strategic commissioning plan that best meet the needs of their local population within the resources available to them.

Within this work area, the BDO healthcare team have specialists who can offer a wide range of strategic support to CCGs and other commissioning organisations.

Our approach is to help our clients develop robust, evidenced-based strategies that deliver against their organisational objectives. In some instances, this can include managing stakeholders and analysing information in order to provide the foundations from which CCGs can develop a strategy. In other cases, this may involve BDO coordinating and drafting the strategy document itself.

One of the principal approaches that we apply is a focus on outcomes. That is, measuring the success of the healthcare system as a whole, not just specific targets or interventions.  This applies to all the work that we undertake, and provides a strong foundation upon which to base the patient, public or clinical engagement that is key to any CCG strategy. This assists our clients in setting their strategic direction in such a way that real value can be delivered for patients.
