Football Finance Directors Report 2018

10 August 2018

As the 2018/19 football season gets underway, we once again release our Football Finance Director Survey. This report is about the financial health and operations of football clubs across the English and Scottish leagues, with an insight into the top priorities and concerns of these football clubs, as well as commentary on how they are responding to developments in the game.

According to this year’s report, football clubs are generally in good financial shape. Nine in ten clubs in the English Premier League (EPL) are expecting to make profits after player trading in the 2017/18 season. However, only 50% of EPL clubs reported their financial position as ‘very healthy’, compared to 71% last year, which is no doubt a reflection that EPL clubs may have found it harder to resist the ensuing player wage and transfer fee inflation than they might have hoped.

The report based the findings of our annual survey of finance directors from a cross section of English Premier League, Championship, Football Leagues One and Two and Scottish Premiership clubs.
