BDO appoints new finance partner

31 July 2020

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has appointed Stuart Collins as finance partner, starting 4 July 2020.

Stuart will take over the role from Mark Sherfield, who has held the position of finance partner and formerly chief financial officer and chief operating officer since 1999, during which time the business revenue has more than trebled to £578m. Mark will continue as a partner until he retires from the firm in June 2021.

Stuart has spent the last four years leading BDO’s consumer markets sector team. After joining BDO in 2013 as part of the merger with PKF (UK) LLP, he has held positions on the firm’s Partnership Council and Audit Committee. Throughout Stuart’s career, he specialised in providing assurance and advisory services to growing businesses. His clients have ranged from privately-owned, entrepreneurial businesses through to multinational, listed companies. Stuart specialised in the hotel and leisure sector, where he has worked with several luxury and other hotel groups, premier league football clubs and sports clubs. He has also worked with complex global property and real estate sector, and advised many professional services firms, including solicitors, surveyors and accountants.

Commenting on his appointment, Stuart said:

“I am thrilled to take on the role of Finance Partner and hope to continue the excellent work Mark has done over many years.

“2020 has been, and will continue to be, an extremely challenging time for business, and BDO is not exempt from that. The wider finance team and I will continue work with the rest of the business to ensure that BDO is in the best position possible to weather the storm as businesses adapt to the ‘new normal’.”

Mark Sherfield commented:

“I wish Stuart the best of luck in his new role and look forward to supporting him and the team with the transition over the next 12 months, whilst continuing my work on a number of transformational projects within the business.”

BDO is now the second-largest auditor of UK listed companies and is number one adviser to AIM. Last year the firm successfully merged with Moore Stephens LLP, creating the largest UK accountancy firm focused on mid-sized, entrepreneurially spirited businesses.
