BDO ranks in Top 75 Social Mobility Employer Index

BDO is proud to be named in the UK’s Top 75 Social Mobility Employer Index, which ranks employers based on the actions they have taken to improve social mobility in the workplace.

The Index, created by the Social Mobility Foundation, uses the latest research and best practice to measure performance across eight areas of employer-led social mobility.

Over the last decade, BDO has committed to breaking down barriers, widening access and creating real opportunities for people of all backgrounds.

BDO’s commitments include an exclusive partnership with Enactus and its NextGenLeaders programme, designed to offer project-based learning for young secondary school students.

BDO is also a founding member of Access Accountancy and offers a dedicated work experience programme, Explore BDO, aimed at students from a lower socio-economic background. This insight programme saw a 75% increase in headcount this summer.

An additional 42 young people - a combination of year 12-13 students and university students - attended a Northern-specific lower socio-economic insight programme in the Leeds office this summer. Furthermore, numbers for BDO’s Black Heritage Programme, designed for second year university students, more than doubled this year.

Dan Brookes, Partner Sponsor for Social Mobility and Citizenship at BDO, says:
“I am incredibly proud of the work we have achieved to be ranked on the Social Mobility Employer Index this year. This recognition reflects our commitment to turning values into action, creating workplaces that are stronger, fairer and more inclusive for everyone.

“Social mobility is a strategic area of focus at BDO, and we will continue to evolve our offering to improve access to the profession. We are committed to promoting equitable opportunities, valuing diversity and creating a culture where individuals feel they belong.”

In the last year, BDO saw 4,500 young people sign up to its virtual work experience site and a further 2,000 active users on its online engagement platform. In addition to BDO’s insight programmes, these virtual initiatives allow the organisation to access a broader pool of people and improves social mobility, diversity and inclusion, both in the profession and in society generally.
