BDO strengthens risk advisory team with senior Midlands hire

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has strengthened its Risk Advisory Services team in the Midlands with the appointment of senior industry specialist, Ben Connor.

Ben joins BDO as a Risk Advisory partner from PwC, where he has spent the last 16 years.  He joins with extensive expertise in the education, science and research sectors, predominantly working with universities and large, complex research organisations on a wide range of assurance and advisory engagements.

At BDO, a key focus for Ben will be on the education sector, helping the firm to build a sustainable risk advisory offering across internal audit, risk, governance and controls. He will also lead BDO’s broader advisory business across the education sector. Ben will be based at BDO’s Birmingham office.

Gareth Singleton, Regional Managing Partner at BDO in the Midlands, commented: “As we continue to cement our position in the regional marketplace, it’s essential that we bring on board talented individuals like Ben – individuals with immense experience in exciting and dynamic markets such as education and research. His appointment will provide us with an excellent platform to build on our success in those specific sectors, strengthening our proposition in internal audit and risk advisory services, both in the Midlands and across the UK.”

Ben said: “I’m really looking forward to working alongside the regional and national BDO teams, capitalising on the strength and depth of the firm’s services and expertise in key markets such as education and research. Alongside creating a new and refreshed risk advisory offering in the education sector, I’m also excited about the opportunity to introduce the broader capabilities that BDO has to bring to my portfolio of clients.”

Ben’s appointment follows the arrival of Michael Wong who joined as partner in the Forensic and Valuations Services (FAVS) team.
