Mads Hannibal

Mads is an advisory Partner in our Financial Services Advisory practice. He has 18 years of regulatory experience, gained first as a regulator and then as an advisor with KPMG where he spent nearly 11 years prior to joining BDO in April 2022. Mads leads our Prudential Regulation and Authorisations Team which brings together a multi-disciplinary group of Subject Matter Experts to delivery flexible and tailor support for clients applying for a regulatory licence; or seeking to effect either a Change in Control of a regulated entity or a Variation of Permission (for example to introduce new services to their business).

In addition to supporting clients successfully navigate licence changes, Mads has a particular interest in governance and risk management arrangements. He has led numerous governance effectiveness reviews; risk framework assessments; and delivered coaching to boards and executives for example ahead of SMF interviews. Most recently, he has delivered governance and risk framework related assessment in the context of s.166 reviews.

Mads works with a wide range of clients including start-up banks; challenger banks; subsidiaries and branches of foreign banks as well as different types of investment firms. A current key focus for Mads is supporting investment firms implementing the new Investment Firm Prudential Regime (“IFPR”), which took effect on 1 January 2022.
