An evening at Vermuteria with Phil Cavell

With three great rides already in the bag so far this season, we held our first evening event of 2022 on Thursday 26 May.

Welcoming fellow members, we created a temporary cycling shrine at Michael Sodeau’s welcoming Vermuteria in Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross. As billed, Michael’s love of food, drink and cycling were all in evidence as we combined all three, with the Giro playing in the background on the widescreen (see the accompanying pics!).

So, cued for success, a great networking, social and thought-provoking event ensued.  Our guest speaker, Phil Cavell, author of The Midlife Cyclist and founder of Cyclefit UK, held us in his thrall as he gave a brief synopsis of his fascinating book. A great friend and supporter of BDOVELO, we were grateful to him for finding the time to join us and answer questions from those seeking eternal life on 2 wheels (yes, you Grahame!), whilst Cyclefit both settles into its new premises (which look fantastic - check out their website) and Phil moves house. The devil makes work for idle hands.....We also discussed what more we can do to improve BDOVELO and achieve our ambition to be the 'go to' inclusive business networking cycling club.

The 2022 programme is now well underway and offers on-road / off-road / velodrome / A to B / mid-week rides in both the virtual and real worlds as well as potential weekend cycling events / club tours, and purely social gatherings with excellent guest speakers.  But there is always room for improvement and we welcome suggestions!

And so, the BDOVELO tour group depart on what will be a superb few days in early June, taking in the Red wine and White roads tour of Tuscany.  Our next event thereafter is an off-road 'tracks and trails' ride out of Stonor Park in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is the Chilterns, on 22 June.  This will not be a technical ride, so swop the road for the trail and savour a memorable off the beaten track experience! Post ride we will be treated to a lavish picnic in the beautiful grounds of Stonor. Book early and join us!
