Our tour of Buckinghamshire

For the third ride of the year, we headed for the hills! (That is, the Chiltern Hills AONB.) On our arrival to the spectacular setting of Harleyford Golf Club we were greeted by James Doran-Webb’s driftwood sculptures of stags, mustangs… and a dragon.

Out of Harleyford, we immediately rolled into the Chilterns with a climb up to Marlow Common. We passed charming villages, farmhouses and manors including Rotten Row, Russell’s Water and Stonor Park. The steady climb through Ibstone up to Christmas Common was rewarded with lovely views over the hills and valleys and a stop at the Barn in Turville Heath. Tucked away from the road, the Barn is built from timbers of Henry VIII’s ships and serves hot food, coffee and great cake. We were again very lucky with the weather, the sun was out, and there was hardly a sprinkle of rain.

We returned to Harleyford for an early dinner and a talk from Jonny Revis, directeur sportive of the Zero.BC racing team and his involvement with the cycling world. It was great to see all the guests mingling and exchanging business cards, some great networking was had by all. We’re looking forward to the next networking event on 4th July - an evening with Roger Uttley at The Carlton House Terrace, which overlooks The Mall.
