Navigating AIM with BDO at your side
What is AIM?
Originally known as the Alternative Investment Market, AIM was established in 1995 to cater for growing businesses seeking the benefits of a public quotation along with a flexible regulatory approach. It has since become the most successful growth market of its type in the world.
The leading accountancy firm for AIM listed companies
BDO continues to audit more AIM listed companies than any other firm and has been the leading reporting accountant for AIM Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) for each of the six years up to and including 2016.
We are passionate about working with the entrepreneurial medium sized companies that are listed on AIM, having the experience and knowledge to help them overcome the challenges they face, including reporting and governance requirements.
We help our clients throughout the lifecycle of their business. We focus on helping them achieve success; for many that will mean an IPO and a listing on AIM. We can help you achieve that goal.
Working with an accountant who knows and understands your business is key to a successful admission to AIM. BDO assists in all aspects of the IPO, from assessing the readiness of companies for IPO to carrying out the financial due diligence for the company directors and the Nominated Adviser (Nomad) and providing the ‘public’ opinions required by the admission process.
Any company considering joining AIM will need a Nomad approved by the London Stock Exchange. The Nomad plays a key role in advising and preparing a company for listing on AIM, including due diligence and acting as a regulator. BDO can assist with recommending Nomads appropriate to a company’s sector and circumstances.

BDO’s AIM Publications
We produce a number of publications that are useful for companies thinking of joining AIM and those already listed.
DirectAIM is our quarterly news bulletin for companies, advisers and anyone else with an interest in AIM. This publication profiles companies on AIM, has articles from guest writers and our SectorWatch tracks the share performance of industry sectors within AIM, enabling companies to track their performance against their peers.
DirectAIM also provides updates on accounting, reporting and tax issues impacting AIM listed companies such as the interaction of social media with disclosure obligations.
AIM Insights is a biannual survey and analysis of the performance of AIM and AIM listed companies. It is produced by the BDO Capital Markets team. The survey answers questions such as:
- How has AIM performed relative to the FTSE All Share?
- What have been the trends in the number and size of AIM listed companies and how successful have they been in raising equity funds?
- Which sectors have been most in demand and which advisers have been most active?
A Guide to AIM
Our Capital Markets team has also contributed to the latest edition of the London Stock Exchange’s ‘A Guide to AIM’. This valuable source of information for any company considering a listing on AIM covers all aspects of the admission process.

The reports generated from this research looks in detail at the remuneration of CEOs, CFOs, other executive directors and non-executive directors. We also look at variations across different industry sectors and how the size and profitability of companies impacts remuneration.
