Charity Fraud in the Pandemic

Keeping safe from COVID-19 is at the forefront of everyone’s minds across the globe and unfortunately, fraudsters are taking advantage of the disruption faced in everyday life to attack businesses and individuals. Levels of fraud have been steadily increasing since the start of the Pandemic and changes to the way many charities operate as a result of this have potentially exposed vulnerabilities for fraudsters to exploit, which is why it is more important than ever for charities to get the basics right when it comes to managing the risk of fraud.

We conducted a survey with the Fraud Advisory Panel to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the charity sector in the UK, to evaluate how it has affected the fraud landscape for charities and to determine what we can do to better protect charities against fraud. The survey also gathers findings to help compare experiences of how charities have managed the evolving risk of fraud before, during and after the pandemic.
