Many companies are making bolder moves to a less carbon-intensive profile, with the shift from oil becoming apparent in their thinking. The last year has seemingly accelerated this trajectory.

Drilling Down 2020

A tough year as the recovery loses momentum. The recovery in funding has stalled for secondary issues (down 22% on 2018) and IPOs with only one new joiner raising any IPO proceeds (Longboat Energy). 

However, the decline in funding was not specific to oil and gas companies as fundraising for the wider equity markets also declined significantly in 2019.

Drilling Down 2019

The recovery of the AIM listed Oil & Gas sector continues despite a decline in oil prices. 2018 saw funding within the sector at its highest since 2011 and the sector experienced the highest market cap and average market cap per company since 2013.

In our eighth edition of Drilling Down, our annual review of the performance of AIM listed Oil & Gas companies, we examine how sector companies have fared in comparison to the overall AIM market, assess the trends in the number and market caps of AIM listed Oil & Gas companies and review the level of fundraising activity in the sector. We also share our thoughts on the outlook for certain aspects of the Oil & Gas sector going forward.

After several years in the doldrums, 2017 was the year when the tentative recovery in the fortunes of the AIM listed oil and gas sector gathered momentum.

Drilling Down 2017

2016 saw a number of indications that, after several years in the doldrums, the downturn in the oil and gas sector may be ending and a new more positive cycle may have started.

In our sixth annual review of the performance of AIM listed oil and gas companies, we examine how they have fared in comparison to the overall AIM market and the trends in oil price. We also assess the trends in the size, number and market caps of AIM listed oil and gas companies and review the level of fundraising activity in the sector. We provide some useful insight in to how oil and gas companies can take advantage of the positive developments whilst still protecting themselves from any ongoing market turbulence.

Drilling Down 2016

2015 was another very difficult year for AIM listed oil and gas companies, hit by both the continuing decline in oil prices and little if any investor appetite for the sector.

In our fifth annual review of the performance of AIM listed oil and gas companies, we examine how they have fared in comparison to the overall AIM market, FTSE AIM 100 and the trends in oil price. We assess the trends in the size, number and market caps of AIM listed oil and gas companies and review the level of fundraising activity in the sector. We also provide useful insight in to how oil and gas companies can seek to protect themselves and weather the storm until market sentiment returns in their favour.
