The latest i-FM Trends & Opportunities report has been released, including unique insights on the most important issues in the facilities management market. Satvir Bungar, Head of Facilities Sector M&A, provides detailed analysis on the changing face of facilities management, and the role of M&A in fuelling growth and transformation.

Key highlights from the report:

While lockdown of the markets saw H1 2020 deal volumes decline by 40% compared with H1 2019, the rebound in the second half of the year and during H1 2021 was swift and impressive, driven by a return of market confidence, corporate restructuring, and confirmation that Capital Gains Tax would remain unaltered for the time being, maximising the net consideration receivable from a business sale.

  • 68 deals in H1 2021, a 120% rise on H1 2020
  • International acquirers return to the UK
  • Private equity double their stake in the sector, with over 30% of 2020 deals representing new financial investments.

Private equity has record levels of dry powder to deploy and are particularly attracted to FM business models aligned with technological innovations, the M&E sector and compliance-led services. Their appetite is driving up competition for assets and increasing opportunities for investment.
