Angela Cross appointed as head of BDO in the North West

Tax partner Angela Cross takes over the role from 1 July 2023 and will oversee the 470-strong audit, tax and advisory team across the region. She succeeds Ed Dwan, who will continue in his role as a North West tax partner ahead of his retirement in early 2024.

Since joining the firm in 2014, Angela has built a strong reputation for helping a wide range of corporate clients to navigate an often-complex tax environment, from entrepreneurial businesses to private equity backed groups and listed clients operating internationally. In 2020, she took over as Head of Tax in the North West and has led the team through a period of positive growth, both in terms of revenue and head count.

Angela, who will remain in her role as Head of Tax, also leads the provision of tax services to the Not for Profit sector across the Midlands and the North. In addition, she is a member of the firm’s national People and Culture Board, playing a key role in helping to support BDO’s positive culture.

In her new role, Angela will be responsible for spearheading the future strategy and vision for the region.

Commenting on the news, Angela said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be taking over the reins from Ed who has built a formidable and multi-disciplined team over the last seven years that continues to go from strength-to-strength.

“I have always had a passion for supporting our people, particularly in my role on BDO’s People and Culture Board and I will continue to place a strong emphasis on developing and nurturing the talent that we have in the North West at every level. Our focus will remain on wellbeing, innovation, and delivering the highest possible standards to the many ambitious and entrepreneurially-minded businesses that we work alongside in the region.”

She continued: “As a firm we have focused on responsible and sustainable growth over the past three years in a period of significant change. During that time, we have built strength in our specialisms, made a firm commitment to the region, while investing heavily in our people to help deliver the highest quality. Alongside my fellow partners, and everyone at BDO in the North West, my ambition is to cement that position and continue to build a practice that places our clients’ and team’s success at the centre of everything we do.”

In the current financial year, BDO has continued to recruit experienced people in the North West and promoted 191 people across the region to maintain its track record of promoting at least a third of its people every year. In addition, it has recruited 58 trainees, while developing a suite of new technology and digital applications. This is in line with the firm’s overall strategy to deliver significant investment in quality, people, and technology through a £70 million programme.

Ed Dwan said: “We have a fantastic team in the region and Angela is the perfect appointment to continue to develop this further – I wish her every success in her new role.”
