BDO expands IT apprenticeship programme

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO is marking the third year of its IT apprenticeship programme with the recruitment of three new apprentices. 

The apprenticeship, carried out in partnership with LeepTalent, was first rolled out in 2023 and gives candidates the opportunity to take part in an 18-month long programme, gaining a Level-3 IT qualification at the end. Once qualified, the majority of apprentices have gone on to join the firm’s IT team in a permanent position.

The roles are based across the firm’s Liverpool and London offices, alongside BDO’s 500-strong IT team which has more than doubled since 2020. They join more than 600 graduates, apprentices and industrial placement students who have started their careers at BDO in the last 12 months. 

Abdirahman Ali, a former IT apprentice at BDO, now works on the firm’s IT service desk, he commented:

“I joined BDO after working as a retail manager so it was a complete change of sector. I’ve really enjoyed learning and developing my skills on the job through the apprenticeship programme. The wider team at BDO has been incredibly supportive, and I learned a great deal from my colleagues from day one. 

“I was delighted to accept a permanent position once I qualified and have since been promoted to a Senior Service Desk Analyst, continuing to support our 8,500 people with their technology requirements.”

In addition to its investment in its IT talent pipeline, last month BDO announced it is on track to support more than 8,200 students through its work experience programmes this year.
