BDO partners with iplicit to power business process outsourcing for the UK mid-market
BDO, one of the UK's leading accountancy and business advisory firms, has partnered with iplicit, the cloud-native accounting software purpose-built for the UK and Ireland’s mid-market, to help it service fast-growth clients growing in scale and complexity.
The strategic partnership enhances BDO's Business Services & Outsourcing offering, enabling the firm to provide a viable software alternative for fast-growth mid-market and global clients without the disruption and cost of transitioning to full enterprise-level Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
The partnership addresses a gap in the market. As mid-market businesses grow, they frequently outgrow the entry-level cloud accounting solutions through which they are being serviced, creating operational inefficiencies for the business and their outsourcing partner.
BDO can now transition these clients onto iplicit's platform - a solution that bridges the gap between entry-level tools and larger, more costly enterprise systems and has been designed specifically to meet the needs of growing UK mid-market and global organisations.
Partnering with BDO marks a significant move for iplicit, which has averaged over 100% year-on-year revenue growth since launching in 2019.
In January 2025, the business secured a £25m investment from leading technology growth investor One Peak and has been recognised on the 2026 Sunday Times 100 Tech list of Britain's fastest-growing private technology companies, ranked among Europe's fastest-growing businesses in the FT1000 for two consecutive years, as well as reaching a 5-star Glassdoor rating.
Matthew Lewns, Accountancy Partner Lead at iplicit, said:
“Every accountancy firm has flagship clients that start out highly successful but become increasingly complex to support as they grow. When the technology being used to service them isn’t designed for that level of complexity, firms often find themselves working around the limitations of their systems rather than focusing on delivering the best possible service to the client. That’s not a sustainable position for anyone.
"For BDO, this strategic partnership gives growing mid-market and global clients a clear and cost-effective technology upgrade path as their needs evolve. It means the firm can continue supporting those businesses as they scale, without the disruption that often comes with moving between very different tiers of finance systems."
Ian McBane, BDO Partner and National Head of Business Services & Outsourcing (BSO) said:
“Our business services and outsourcing specialists seamlessly integrate their expertise with cutting-edge and AI enabled technology to deliver comprehensive finance and accounting solutions for a wide range of thriving UK and Global businesses.
“iplicit stands out as the ideal choice for both rapidly growing enterprises and larger clients with intricate needs. It provides the robust functionality and bespoke workflows essential for our clients, while offering scalability to manage multiple entities and jurisdictions effectively. This platform empowers our specialist teams to engage in meaningful, data-driven discussions with clients, ultimately supporting their ambitions for both local and international business expansion.”
Mid-sized businesses – the UK's economic engine – account for around one in three UK private sector jobs with turnover of £1.8tn – equivalent to more than half the value of UK GDP.
Ben Crow, VP Partnerships at iplicit, said:
“Our intel tells us that an estimated 100,000 mid-market sites across the UK remain reliant on legacy, on-premises finance systems. A further cohort of early-stage, high-growth businesses launched on entry-level solutions that were never designed to scale with them. As a leading advisor to entrepreneurial mid-market businesses BDO’s outsourcing practice is best placed to support their growth, and through this partnership they now have the technology infrastructure to do that effectively as these organisations grow."
iplicit’s cloud-native platform is purpose-built for mid-market finance teams across a range of sectors, including technology, professional services, financial services, property management, nonprofit, and education. Over 50,000 daily users across more than 3,000 UK mid-market organisations run their finance operations on iplicit, with system access from 103 countries.
Key capabilities include multi-entity consolidation, multi-dimensional reporting and dashboards, and automation and AI built specifically for finance teams - functionality that allows Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) teams to service mid-market and global clients at scale, without the workarounds and unbudgeted time that entry-level solutions demand.
A typical iplicit implementation can be completed within a three-month period, compared to six months or more for comparable enterprise ERP installations.
Crow concluded: “Just as Xero made BPO viable for small businesses by moving accounting into the cloud, we’re seeing a similar transformation now happening in the mid-market. With the right technology in place, accountancy firms like BDO can focus on delivering strategic, high-value support to clients, rather than spending time working around the limitations of systems that were never built for organisations at this level of complexity.”
