Helena Cartmell

I am a dedicated valuations specialist with over 2 decades of experience. I am an expert in valuing companies, shares, share options, intangible assets, intellectual property and loan notes for diverse purposes and across a wide variety of sectors and geographies. I lead the valuation team in the North of England.

I spent 5 years as a tax advisor prior to my career in valuations. This experience was good grounding for tax valuation work and dealing with HMRC Shares and Assets Valuations team. I undertake many employee incentive related valuations, for example of growth shares and sweet equity. I also undertake capital gains tax and inheritance tax valuations.

I am highly experienced in the valuations required for financial reporting purposes under IFRS, UK and US GAAP both for audited entities and my non-audit clients. I help my clients navigate purchase price allocations for business combinations and fair value for share-based payment accounting, as well as impairment reviews. I advise on commercial valuations including mergers, earn outs, share buy backs, Companies Act valuations, and for restructuring purposes. I am part of Forensic and Valuation Services and I have long standing experience of contentious valuations, including shareholder disputes, and independent expert valuations.

I am a Fellow of the ICAEW. Outside of work: I am mum to two boys; I am a fixture in my church choir; I swim and run regularly; and I also like to spend time at the theatre and art galleries.
