BDO has provided financial and tax support on the acquisition of RCD Espanyol de Barcelona by Velocity Sports Partners ("VSP"), the investment firm of ALK Capital LLC.
The acquisition of RCD Espanyol de Barcelona marks a significant milestone for Velocity Sports Partners, as it expands its footprint into Spanish football and formalises a new era of collaboration and growth. VSP, the current owners of English Premier League club Burnley FC, are the latest investment Group to join the multi-club ownership model which has become prevalent across the sector.
Each club will retain its own leadership, identity, independence and decision-making, run by its own people, for its own supporters.
RCD Espanyol de Barcelona competes in the top tier of Spanish Football. Founded in 1900 in Barcelona, Espanyol currently play their home games at the 40,000 capacity, RCDE Stadium. Domestically, they have won the Copa del Rey four times, most recently in 2006. In international competitions, the club reached the UEFA Cup final in 1988 and 2007.
