BDO has advised the shareholders and management team of Academy Insurance Services on the recent investment by private equity firm Blixt LLP.

Academy Insurance Services is a specialist community broker providing advice led insurance services to over 60,000 policy holders. Operating through a branch network the business offers an extensive portfolio of policies providing personal cover for both individuals and their families, as well as tradesmen and SME commercial clients. Since being founded over 25 years ago, Academy has grown significantly through organic business development, new branch openings and targeted acquisitions of regional brokers and has become a highly trusted partner to its clients throughout the communities it serves.

"The deal was far more complicated than initially anticipated and I have little doubt that without BDO's experience and calm approach in resolving the numerous issues we encountered, that we could not have completed the deal at all. The fact that we were able to complete the deal on a basis that satisfied all parties was in no small part due to BDO's ability to see the problems from an alternative perspective and propose solutions that neither side had considered.  On behalf of all the shareholders I just wanted to say a big thank you and that if anyone asked me for a recommendation in the future the BDO would be at the top of my list."

Neil Turner, Director and Shareholder, Academy Insurance Services

"We were delighted to assist the directors and shareholders of Academy Insurance Services on this transaction and wish them every success for the future. The external investment from Blixt Group will enable the business to invest in its operational infrastructure and accelerate its growth through further acquisition. This transaction further underlines BDO's transactional experience across the insurance sector and our ability to deliver strategic buyers for specialist brokers."
